Plot Summary: Set in Shanghai during the Eight-Year War of Resistance, the story follows Xiao Qinli, who grew up in a wealthy family and received a good education. She was also passionate about music and dreamed of becoming a pianist. Her father, Huiyi (played by Jiang Wen), was an enlightened intellectual who always supported his daughter's dreams. However, when Qinli reached marriageable age (played by Tu Huaiqing), the elderly family members wanted to marry her off to Chen Youhuang, the son of a wealthy capitalist, hoping to save their family business from collapse. Under immense pressure, Huiyi had to compromise, shattering Qinli's dream of studying abroad and leading to a rift between father and daughter. After marriage, Qinli faced constant harassment and constraints from her in-laws, who adhered to feudal etiquette and forbade her from touching her beloved piano. Fortunately, her husband was understanding and supportive, and Qinli gradually developed feelings for him. Amidst the turmoil of war, the Chen family moved to Hong Kong, where Chen Youhuang fell ill with a serious disease. Qinli had to follow him but never gave up practicing the piano. Years later, Qinli became a pianist living in Paris. When she held her own concert, her long-lost father unexpectedly appeared in the hallway...
